The practice

Three decades designing homes for Midshire.

An established, well-respected practice designing homes — and the places around them — across Midshire and its neighbouring counties since 1995.

01Our story

ArchFirm Chartered Architects was founded in 1995 by its principal, who already brought fifteen years' experience designing homes for the social and private housing sectors.

Three decades on, the practice is established, successful and highly respected. Residential work accounts for around 90% of our commissions, alongside a growing profile of commercial and industrial developments.

We work from studio offices at 1 Drawing Office Yard — a contemporary workspace the practice itself designed.

02Our approach

How we work

Good housing is the product of a hundred sensible decisions. We make them in close partnership with our clients and contractors, so that what looks right on the page is also buildable, affordable and genuinely good to live in.

Working in CAD across the whole team, we coordinate design and technical information carefully — testing layouts, daylight, space standards and detail — to protect quality and cost all the way to handover.

03What guides us

Principles that shape every scheme.

People-centred

Homes designed around the households who live in them, for every tenure and need.

Buildable by design

Detailed with contractors so schemes deliver cleanly on site.

Cost-conscious

Quality that respects tight social-housing and development budgets.

Place-aware

Buildings that sit well in their street, their setting and their community.

04Sustainability

Sustainability

Sustainable design has long been part of how we work. We have delivered schemes to Code for Sustainable Homes Levels 3 and 4, incorporating a range of sustainable heating solutions.

A fabric-first mindset — well-insulated, well-built, efficient homes — keeps running costs down for residents and carbon down over a building's life.
